UN congratulates Bangladesh on election as UNESCO's 43rd General Conference President

DHAKA, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) - The United Nations in Bangladesh has congratulated Bangladesh on being elected President of the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO, describing the achievement as a historic milestone in the country's 53-year partnership with the UN's cultural and educational agency.

In a message today, the UN said the election of Khondker M. Talha, Ambassador of Bangladesh to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, as the President of UNESCO's 43rd General Conference reflects Bangladesh's growing global leadership in education, culture, science, and communication.

The development marks the first time Bangladesh has assumed the presidency of the UNESCO General Conference, underscoring the country's increasing role in multilateral diplomacy and global policy dialogue on sustainable development, knowledge sharing, and cultural cooperation.

Bangladesh joined UNESCO in 1972, a year after its independence, and has since been an active advocate of educational reform, cultural diversity, and technological advancement in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
