NU VC stresses ICT-based skills to survive in competition

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2025 (BSS) - National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Amanullah today underscored the need for acquiring science and ICT-based skills, especially artificial intelligence (AI) to survive in the competition for employment.

"The entire world has become dependent on technology, particularly ICT and AI. This reliance will only grow in the coming days," he said while addressing a workshop at the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) in Dhanmondi.

The workshop was jointly organized by the National University and the government's A2I programme.

The VC said students of NU-affiliated colleges are falling behind in the employment race due to lack of adequate skills in ICT and foreign languages. To overcome this challenge, ICT and English have been made compulsory for graduation, he added.

He said the NU is working to provide modern and up-to-date education to its students in line with global requirements.
"Work is underway to design a CSE curriculum, introduce students to emerging technologies, and connect them with the SSP. We are also seeking advice from ICT professionals to enrich this effort," the VC mentioned.

Calling upon stakeholders in the ICT sector to extend cooperation, he noted that most NU-affiliated college students come from lower- and middle-income families and deserve opportunities to enhance their employability.

NU Pro-VC Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam and Treasurer Professor Dr ATM Zafrul Azam also spoke at the concluding session.

Ms. Salma Parveen, Director of the Department of Teacher Training; Dr AHM Ruhul Quddus, acting Dean of the NU's Curriculum Development and Evaluation Center and CEO of the ICT Industry Skills Council also addressed the event.
