CHATTOGRAM, Sept 30, 2025 (BSS) - The Director General (DG) of the Department of Mass Communication, Faizul Haque, emphasized the importance of vaccination in protecting people from fatal diseases.
He mentioned that the government has initiated a comprehensive programme to provide typhoid preventive vaccination for children and adolescents nationwide.
Haque made these remarks as the chief guest at an orientation meeting for Scouts and Girls Guides during the "Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025" event.
The meeting was organized by the District Information Office in Chattogram in collaboration with UNICEF at the Halda Conference Room of Hotel Saikat.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam presented the keynote paper at the event. Faizul Haque highlighted the recent increase in typhoid fever outbreaks, which have disrupted students' educational lives and led to physical complications and malnutrition.
Haque emphasized the importance of providing typhoid vaccinations in all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and madrasas, to address the situation.
He explained that typhoid is a highly infectious disease transmitted through contaminated food and water, with children and adolescents being particularly vulnerable.
Haque stressed the necessity of making typhoid vaccination mandatory for students of the appropriate age, as timely vaccination can reduce the risk of contracting typhoid by 70-80 percent.
The event was chaired by Mir Hossain Ahsanul Kabir, Director of the Chattogram District Information Office, with Ansuya Barua, Director of the Department of Mass Communication, Golam Sarwar, Director of the Islamic Foundation, Kazi Shamminaz Alam, Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Communication, Zahidul Karim Kochi, Member Secretary of the Chattogram Press Club, and Mohammad Shahnawaz, President of the Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists Union, among others, delivered speech as special guests.
Government officials and journalists from print and electronic media also attended the meeting.
