JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today said that the aspirations sparked by the mass uprising of 2024 can only be realized through the establishment of justice.
"Our youth have demonstrated through their sacrifices that those entrusted with governing the state failed and they were held accountable. Now, the state must be rebuilt in accordance with the hopes and aspirations of the young generation," he said.
The VC made the remarks while addressing the final round and prize-giving ceremony of the National Debate Competition 2025 at Eastern University at 11 am as the chief guest.
Highlighting the role of debating in promoting justice and rational thinking, Prof Kamrul said, "Debaters help build an enlightened society by thinking critically, respecting opposing views, and presenting arguments based on reason."
He urged debate organizations to continue promoting debating culture across the country and congratulated the winners. The VC also called for united efforts to curb moral degradation at all levels of the state.
This year, the competition saw participation from 32 universities and 28 colleges. In the college category, Government Science College, Dhaka was crowned champion, while Bangladesh Textile University secured the university category championship.
Presided over by Eastern University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farid Ahmed Sobhan, the event was attended by founder chairman of the Board of Trustees Abul Kashem Haider, Treasurer Prof Md Shamsul Huda, Registrar Dr Abul Bashar Khan, leaders of Eastern University Debate Club, teachers, students and debaters from different institutions.
