DHAKA, Sept 28, 2025 (BSS) – Civil society representatives and academics participating in a dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) today called for ensuring security for all to guarantee a free and fair election.
The dialogue was held at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections emphasizing the need for a transparent and impartial vote-counting process.
Highlighting the role of the media, the participants urged the EC to seek media cooperation throughout the election.
They stressed that effective media coverage is essential for a fair democracy, enabling the collection and dissemination of accurate information from the start to avoid misconceptions.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, four election commissioners, and senior secretaries of the EC attended the event.
In the first session, 13 civil society representatives, including former caretaker government adviser Begum Rasheda K Choudhury and former ambassador M Humayun Kabir, took part.
The second session comprised 15 prominent academicians such as Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, former Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. AFM Yusuf Haider, and Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
The academicians urged the EC to fully implement its work plan and legal framework to ensure fair elections.
