DHAKA, Sept 27, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, citizens will no longer need to take to the streets to claim their rights.

"The people of this country want to live with dignity in an independent state. Yet, for more than half a century, we have been unable to create that environment. With the support of the people and Allah's help, we aim to change this situation," he said.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks while addressing the annual council of the Forum of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (FDEIB) at the IDEB building in Kakrail.

He said that the country has seen the emergence of notorious "Aynaghar" and secret torture centers, a phenomenon unprecedented in Bangladesh's history.

"This country was established through the sacrifices of countless martyrs. The expectation of the people is to live as dignified citizens, with security for their lives and property, and employment opportunities for the youth. Yet, we have not achieved that reality. Now, we must turn this history of failure into one of success," he added.

Criticizing the education system, he said, "The current education system is inefficient and it wastes talent, time, and resources. Those responsible for planning education do not send their own children to the national system, which is why they fail to design programs for welfare-oriented programs."

Highlighting the importance of engineering and agricultural education, he said, "The talented graduates of BUET and agricultural universities are the pride of the nation. The contributions of agricultural scientists in fisheries, livestock, and food production directly benefit the country."

"With adequate research funding, this sector can progress further. Yet, despite having the most talented individuals in engineering, why is the nation not reaping the benefits?"

He identified five reasons for the lag in Bangladesh's engineering sector: lack of planning, absence of patronage, lack of vision, lack of courage, and lack of effort. "In five years, we may not run bullet trains, but, InshaAllah, we can start express trains," he said.

Taking a strong stand against corruption, he said, "Our second commitment is to curb the tide of corruption. Justice will ensure everyone receives what is rightfully theirs. Bribery and illicit wealth must end. This will strengthen the nation's economy."

Addressing journalists, he emphasized their role, saying, "The media is the mirror of the nation, and journalists are its conscience. They must call black black and white white, even if it goes against us. Politicians need two hearts; journalists need three. Only truthful and courageous journalism can guide the nation on the right path."

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said the sense of responsibility among politicians and journalists must outweigh personal pride. He promised that if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, people will not have to take to the streets to claim their rights; justice will be ensured based on fairness.

He urged everyone to focus on positive programs and constructive initiatives rather than fault-finding, saying, "Our three fundamental commitments are education reform, anti-corruption measures, and building a justice-based society. May Allah grant us the strength to fulfill the commitments."
