DHAKA, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS) - The namaj-e-janaja of firefighter Nurul Huda was held hours after he succumbed to his burn injuries in the chemical warehouse explosion in Tongi, Gazipur district at the burn institute in the capital this afternoon.
His namaj-e-janaja was held at the Fire Brigade and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters in the capital this evening.
Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury , Director General of the FSCD Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal and officials of various ranks of the ministry were present, said a press release of the FSCD.
Before the janaja, Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury paid tribute to the coffin of Shaheed Md. Nurul Huda.
At this time, a smart team of firefighters provided a guard of honor.
Then, a brief biography of the deceased firefighter was read out.
The father of the martyred firefighter gave a short speech.
After the speech, prayers for the peace of the departed soul were conducted by Muhaddis Kazi Sharif Ullah.
Then, the participants of the funeral prayer lined up to see Nurul Huda's body for the last time and paid their respects.
Then, the Fire Service officials started their journey with the ambulance carrying the body of Nurul Huda to his village home, Dhameel, Gafargaon Upazila, Mymensingh district.
The body of firefighter Nurul Huda will be laid to rest in his village.
He succumbed to his burn injuries around 3:40 pm at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).
With Nurul, two firemen out of four injured fire personnel have so far died.
They suffered burn injuries in the explosion that occurred at a tin-shed chemical godown while they were dousing a flame that erupted in the warehouse at Sahara Market in Tongi, Gazipur, at around 3:29 pm on Monday, fire brigade sources said.
Seven firefighting engines brought the fire under control around 7:00 pm after about two hours of frantic efforts.
Firefighters Shamim (42) and Nurul Huda (40) suffered nearly 100 percent burn injuries, while Fire Officer Khondoker Jannatul Nayem (35) sustained 42 percent burn injuries, and firefighter Joy Hasan (24) received five percent burn injuries, said NIBPS Resident Surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman.
"The condition of Fire Officer Khondoker Jannatul Nayem is still critical," he said.
With the death of Shamim and Nurul, the number of firefighters who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties reached 50, FSCD sources said.
