DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - The namaz-e-janaza of firefighter Shamim Ahmed, who succumbed to his burn injuries in a chemical fire in Tongi, was held with state honor at the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence premises in the city around 8 pm today.
Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury and Director General of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal were present at the janaza along with senior officials and personnel of the ministry and the fire service department.
Prior to the janaza, the Home Adviser paid solemn tribute to the coffin of the fallen firefighter.
A smartly turned-out contingent of firefighters presented a guard of honor as a mark of respect.
A brief biography of Shamim Ahmed was read out on behalf of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, highlighting his dedication and bravery in the line of duty.
The firefighter's elder brother delivered a short emotional speech, seeking prayers and forgiveness for the departed soul on behalf of the bereaved family.
Muhaddis Kazi Sharif Ullah, a religious teacher of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, led the funeral prayer and offered special prayers for the martyred firefighter.
Following the janaza, the Home Adviser briefly spoke to the media, expressing deep condolences and acknowledging the ultimate sacrifice made by Shamim Ahmed in the service of the nation.
After the janaza, Fire Service officials transported the body by ambulance to Shamim Ahmed's ancestral village in Pizahati, Kendua Upazila of Netrokona district. He will be laid to eternal rest there.
