Govt for improving quality of higher education, research: BRUR VC

RANGPUR, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, 
Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali today said the present government 
is giving utmost importance to improving the quality of higher education and 
research. 
 
"So, the university teachers should make their research activities up-to-date 
and of high quality in line with the international standards to make the 
government's efforts successful," he said. 
 
He said this today while addressing the inaugural session of a two-day 
workshop on 'Research  Methodologies for Faculty' organized by the 
universities' Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the virtual 
classroom of Academic Building-2 on the campus.
 
Begum Rokeya University IQAC Director Professor Dr Md Tajul Islam presided 
over the workshop participated by the teachers from different departments of 
BRUR.
 
Professor Dr Mohammad Amir Hossain Bhuiyan of the Department of Environmental 
Sciences of Jahangirnagar University presented the main paper on the research 
proposal. 
 
He discussed in detail the different research methods, data collection, 
analysis and ways to use the research results in policy formulation
 
The Vice-chancellor said that a teacher cannot complete his duties by just 
teaching. Rather, he or she has to take the nation forward through knowledge 
cultivation, new discoveries and development of innovative power. 
 
"If the research quality improves, the position of a university will also be 
strengthened in the global arena," he said, hoping that teachers will gain 
new knowledge in research processes and methodological aspects through this 
workshop.
 
Additional Director of the university's IQAC Dr Md Abdul Latif and Dr Md 
Abdur Rakib were present.
