17 lakh cubic feet stones replaced in Sada Pathor area till Tuesday

SYLHET, Sept 03, 2025 (BSS) - About 17 lakh cubic feet of stones has so far been replaced in Sada Pathor tourist spot in Companiganj, while about 30 lakh cubic feet of looted stones has been seized till Tuesday. 

"About 30 lakh cubic feet of looted stones has been seized from different places in Sylhet till yesterday (Tuesday)," Companiganj UNO Mohammad Robin Mia said.

He said about 17 lakh cubic feet stone has been replaced at Sapadhar tourist spot, of which 50,000 cubic feet of stone was put back in a single day, on Tuesday.

In addition, 13.4 lakh cubic feet stone has been kept for replacement at the dumping stand.

Besides, the authorities concerned recently seized 1,08,091 cubic feet of broken stones from Dhopagul crushing zone in Sylhet Sadar and Mohammadpur area in Jaflong, Gowainghat. 

The Bureau of Mineral Resources Development (BMD) has taken an initiative to sell those stones in an open auction. 

Of those, 61,900 cubic feet of broken stone was recovered from Dhopagul area and 46,191 cubic feet from Mohammadpur area.

A circular signed by BMD Director (Deputy Secretary) Ahsan Uddin Murad regarding the broken stone auction was issued on Sunday.

According to the circular, the broken stones will be auctioned tomorrow (Thursday). Anyone can participate in the auctions.

Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam said the BMD has called for auction of seized broken stones. 

In addition, the replacement of recovered intact stones is going on, he said.
