DHAKA, Sept 02, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today emphasized on a coordinated plan for determining and detecting marine resources of Bangladesh for their proper use.
"We are still unaware of our marine resources so that we have to evaluate the recommendations of marine special plan (MSP)," she said while addressing a workshop at CIRDAP Auditorium here as chief guest.
The 'Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project' under the Directorate of Fisheries arranged the 'Inter-ministerial final validation workshop on 'SMP Web GIS platform'.
Chaired by the Director General of Fisheries Dr Md Abdur Rouf, Secretary to the fisheries and livestock Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber was present as special guest at the workshop.
Director of the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project Md Zia Haider Chowdhury gave address of welcome while Deputy Project Director for MSP Roadmap Dr Md Shafiqul Azam and team leader of the project Md Golam Mostafa jointly demonstrated the technical presentation on the project.
"The Chief Adviser has laid the highest emphasis on the possibilities of marine fisheries and deep sea fisheries and has already instructed us to work more deeply in this regard," she said, adding the ministry has worked enough for the development of internal fisheries but less for deep sea fisheries.
"The expected fishing would not be possible despite increase in production, if we fail to protect the fishermen," Farida Akhter said, adding that the people of this sector would have to be protected and their facilities should be increased.
The Chief Adviser has instructed not to destroy environment, life and nature for any development, she said and added that there must be emphasize on maintaining environmental and social balance.
