KHULNA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 475 meritorious students of Khulna University (KU) were awarded merit scholarships and certificates in recognition of securing first, second, and third positions in their respective disciplines and academic years.

The award-giving ceremony was held on Monday at the university's Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium, with UGC Member Professor Dr. Masuma Habib attending as the chief guest. KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Masuma Habib lauded the initiative of KU, terming it a timely step to inspire academic excellence among students.

VC Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim said the scholarship not only recognizes students' academic achievements but also enhances their career profiles. He emphasized including sessional work, thesis, projects, seminars, and extracurricular activities in student CVs.

Highlighting the current policy that bars students from receiving university-level scholarships if they had previously received SSC and HSC-level scholarships, he called for a logical revision of the rule, stating that university-level merit should also be rewarded.

Professor Dr. Md. Golam Hossain, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, and Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs, spoke as special guests.

The welcome speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Shahjahan Kabir, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee.
