DHAKA, Aug 8, 2025 (BSS) – As part of the government’s ongoing operations against illegal gas connections, mobile courts conducted drives in the Savar and Meghnaghat areas of Munshiganj on Thursday aiming to disconnect illegal gas lines, impose fines and demolish unauthorized establishments.

The operations, led by Executive Magistrate Simon Sarkar, were carried out in both residential and industrial areas in Savar against use of gas illegally.

A washing factory was fined Taka 1.0 lakh for illegally tapping into the gas supply.

In the same drive, illegal connections of  50 residential houses were detached and approximately 0.3 kilometers of unauthorized gas pipelines were removed.

Meanwhile, another drive was carried out in the Meghnaghat area under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Saikat Raihan.

During the operation, gas connections of three illegal lime factories were disconnected and the factories were demolished.

Authorities estimated that these drives will save around 16,000 cubic feet of gas daily.

An FIR has been lodged against the owners of the illegal establishments.
According to official data, since the nationwide campaign began in September 2024, authorities have disconnected 63,444 illegal gas connections — including 293 industrial, 321 commercial and 62,830 residential setups.
