RAJSHAHI, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS)- Labour and Employment and Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Sakhawat Hossain has said adequate industries are needed in Rajshahi region for employment generation.

He said the region has huge manpower and they travel to other regions, including Dhaka and its adjoining areas, for employment which is very difficult for them.

The Labour and Employment Adviser made the observation while addressing a celebration event titled “Celebrating 2,000 Jobs – Aiming for 12,000” held at Barendra Rajshahi Textile Limited here today as chief guest.

PRAN-RFL Group, one of the country’s leading business conglomerates, has successfully created 2,000 jobs within just six months by reviving the long-closed Rajshahi Textile Mills, renamed Barendra Rajshahi Textile Limited.

The group now aims to create more 10,000 jobs by investing in various labour-intensive sectors including tele-marketing and ready-made garments.

Following the handover from BTMC in December last, PRAN-RFL began reviving the site. Within a short span, the group has successfully repaired and repurposed the only usable shed on the premises and has already started the production of bags and shoes.

Adviser Sakhawat Hossain said if other companies establish industries many more people can uplift their fates through getting jobs.

Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment AHM Shafiquzzaman and Chairman of PRAN-RFL Group Ahsan Khan Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.

On the occasion, appointment letters were given to 10 male and female youths. Earlier, they were imparted with vocational training at UCEP training centre here.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury said, “Our mission is purposeful. By investing in labour-intensive industries in Rajshahi, we are creating significant employment opportunities.”

He also said they are going to develop a fully sustainable green industrial park, with all products being 100 percent export-oriented.

"We are working on new avenues of employment, particularly for women. A tele-marketing hub is going to be lunched here, creating thousands of jobs for women in the coming days,” he added.
