CHATTOGRAM, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram city as well as most part of the district have experienced heavy rainfall in the last couple of days, creating panic for landslides in the nine risky hilly pockets in the port city.

Apart from low-lying areas in Chittagong, knee-to-waist water was seen on roads in various areas. This has caused extreme suffering to the workplace-oriented employees and the common people who went out for daily work.

The city people have been experiencing intermittent rainfall since Monday morning due to the active monsoon that disrupted their normal life.

The downpour began around 7 am and continued until 10:30 am without any pause, causing severe water logging in many low-lying areas including , Badurtala, Mehedibagh, Katalganj, Probortok Mor, Reazuddin Bazar, Chawkbazar, Muradpur, Sirajuddaula Road, Gate No-2, Agrabad, Boropol, Halishahar, Dewanhat, Boro Garage of Kapashgola, Tinpool and GEC intersection.

Pathenga Meteorological office sources reported 85 mm of rainfall in the last four hours ending at 11 A.M. today.
 
The Met office is forecasting further moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in Chattogram and some other parts of the country. 

Many HSC candidates were seen walking to their exam centres due to lack of transport.
 
Many parents said they had to pay extra fares to ensure their children reach exam centres on time.

The administration since Monday morning have been asking residents through loudspeakers to shift to shelter centers or other safer places, said Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom.  

She mentioned that no one would be allowed to stay in risky hills and the residents of risky hilly areas must move to  shelter centers or their relatives’ houses.

 “If necessary, magistrates will conduct evacuation drives and we must prevent deaths by landslides at any cost,” Farida said.

The met office also has forecasted cloudy weather and Chattogram port has been asked to hoist local cautionary signal number 3.
