US-Bangla refutes press report on Nepal court verdict over 2018 crash

DHAKA, July 26, 2025 (BSS) – US-Bangla Airlines has denied the media report claiming that a Nepali court has asked the airline to pay compensation to families of victims of its 2018 Kathmandu crash.

“We have received no such official order or court document,” US-Bangla Airlines General Manager (PR) Kamrul Islam told BSS.

A major daily of Nepal The Kathmandu Post on July 22 edition reported that a Kathmandu district court had ordered the Dhaka-based airline to pay USD 2.74 million (approximately Tk 33.5 crore) to families of the victims of US-Bangla aircraft crash on March 12, 2018.

“It even remains unconfirmed whether any such verdict has actually been delivered,” Kamrul Islam said.

He said that the airline's legal team is currently reviewing the matter with due seriousness and if any such verdict exists, it will be legally examined and the media and relevant authorities will be informed in due course.

US-Bangla Airlines urged all concerned to refrain from disseminating reports published in Nepalese media based on unverified claims or in the absence of official court documents or copies of any verdict.

The tragic crash of Flight BS211, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, occurred during landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Of the 71 people on board, 51 lost their lives, including 28 Bangladeshis, 22 Nepalis, and one Chinese national.
