DHAKA, July 22, 2025 (BSS) - The National Consensus Commission (NCC) today adopted a condolence motion over the casualties in Monday's Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter plane crash at the Milestone School and College in Uttara that killed 27 people mostly children and and left scores of others injured.
Thirty political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Ganosanhati Andolan (People's Solidarity Movement), Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers' Party (Revolutionary Workers Party) and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party and members of the commission took part in the discussion have signed the condolence motion.
The NCC, in a press release, confirmed the matter to the media.
Expressing deep shock over the tragedy, a condolence motion was read out before the start of the 17th day discussion in the second phase between the political parties and the NCC at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy today.
The condolence motion was read out by Commission member Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar.
It reads, "We express deep sorrow over the incident of the Bangladesh Air Force plane crash at a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara yesterday (July 21). We pray for the eternal peace of the souls of all the students and children who died in this tragic accident. We also express our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the accident and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured."
The NCP in its condolence motion called on the government to provide compensation to the families of those killed and injured in the plane crash, and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
It also demanded that the government take necessary measures to investigate the cause of the plane crash and prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
In his opening speech, NCC Vice-Chairman Professor Dr Ali Riaz has expressed deep condolences to the victims and injured in the accident.
"Last year at this time, we were in a terrible situation. One year later, today, the entire nation is mourning a tragic accident," he said.
He has called upon people from all walks of life to stand by the bereaved families from their respective positions and demanded that the government ensure proper medical care for the injured and conduct a fair investigation to find out the cause of the accident.
Commission members Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Manir Haidar were present at the meeting, among others.
However, the Monday session of the Commission was postponed after expressing condolences over the plane crash.
