DHAKA, July 19, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh and Japan further strengthened their cultural ties through a joint art exhibition inaugurated today at the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka, reflecting the deepening bilateral cooperation in arts and culture.

The exhibition, titled “Origins of Vision,” has been jointly organized by HerNet Fine Arts and the Embassy of Japan as part of the embassy’s ongoing commitment to fostering artistic exchanges between the two countries, said a press release here this afternoon. 

Chargé d'Affaires of Japan in Dhaka Takahashi reiterated Japan’s dedication to promoting cultural cooperation with Bangladesh through scholarships, curated exhibitions, and artist exchanges. 

He noted that Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, during their meeting in Tokyo on May 30, had agreed to further strengthen cultural collaboration, and initiatives like this exhibition would contribute to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

The opening ceremony was attended by ambassadors of Spain and the Republic of Korea, renowned artist Monirul Islam as the chief guest, diplomats, and leading Bangladeshi artists, underlining the growing interest in cultural diplomacy in Dhaka’s diplomatic community.

Featuring works by 47 celebrated and emerging Bangladeshi artists, including alumni of Japanese art programs, the exhibition showcases the synthesis of Japanese aesthetics with Bangladeshi creativity. 

A major highlight is the posthumous tribute to pioneers of modern Bangladeshi art, including Zainul Abedin, SM Sultan, Kibria, Novera Ahmed, Rashid Choudhury, Quamrul Hassan, and Safiuddin Ahmed, through a rare display of privately preserved masterpieces.

The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Embassy of Japan from July 18 to 26, daily between 3:00 PM and 8:30 PM. 

As part of the event, a Japanese Tea Ceremony will be held on July 20, followed by an Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) demonstration on July 25.
