DHAKA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday carried out mobile court operations in Old Dhaka's Mitford and Babubazar areas for violating the Road Transport Act, illegal parking, and obstructing traffic by leaving goods on the road.
Initiated by DMP's Lalbagh Division, the drives were led by Special Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman, in coordination with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Kotwali and Bangshal police stations.
According to a police press release, two individuals were sentenced to imprisonment, two others were fined, and four people were arrested for encroaching on roads and disrupting traffic.
A rickshaw syndicate leader was sentenced to seven days' rigorous imprisonment under Section 92 of the Road Transport Act for setting up an unauthorized rickshaw stand on Mitford Road.
In the Babubazar Bridge area, a driver of Bahadur Shah Paribahan was sentenced to one month's rigorous imprisonment under Section 66 of the Road Transport Act for driving without a valid license.
Traffic-Lalbagh Division sources said two truck drivers were fined Taka 6,000 each for illegal parking and causing road obstruction. They were released after paying the fines.
Multiple cases were filed during the operations.
Four others were also arrested for occupying the road and causing disruption by setting up a van and rickshaw garage.
Further legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway.
