DHAKA, July 3, 2025 (BSS) - Education Adviser Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar today said Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam had advocated for human welfare and humanity throughout their lives.
He was addressing a discussion marking the Rabindra-Nazrul Joyanti at Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy auditorium here.
The Adviser said every human being can experience happiness, sadness, joy, excitement, love and problems. "Someone's life can be full of struggle or pleasure. Literature, poetry, and music help to alleviate these aspects of our lives," he said.
CR Abrar said, "When we look at the current global and domestic situation, we see that we are indifferent, passive and unsuccessful in fulfilling our duties as human beings. Human sympathy and compassion for one another is almost extinct today. We do not hesitate to oppress others for our own petty interests."
He said, "Rabindranath and Nazrul have inspired us to sing the song of life in this terrible world. That is why these two poets are relevant for us. It is essential for us to read and study their works to be inspired by the human appeal of their works."
Essayist and researcher Dr Morshed Shafiul Hasan, Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam, and essayist and researcher Kudrat-e-Huda, among others, were present at the event with BCS Administration Academy Rector Dr Md Omar Faruk in the chair.
