54,397 Hajj pilgrims return home

DHAKA, June 27, 2025 (BSS) – A total of 54,397 Bangladeshi pilgrims returned home after performing the holy Hajj since June 10 as three airlines including Bangladesh Biman were engaged to fly them back home.

 “A total of 922 pilgrims will land in Dhaka today in three flights,” religious affairs ministry’s Hajj office director M Lokman Hossain said quoting Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport officials.

Quoting the flight management information service, he said the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has brought back 23,900 pilgrims in 63 flights, while Saudi Airlines carried 22,056 in 57 flights and Saudi-based Flynas Airlines operated 22 flights.

According to officials concerned, so far, 142 return Hajj flights have been operated. Biman Bangladesh Airlines has operated 63 and Saudi Airlines 57 flights, while Flynas has operated 22 flights to carry Bangladesh Hajis back home.

 “Unfortunately 40 Bangladeshi pilgrims have passed away in Saudi Arabia so far - 29 of them are males and 11 are females while 25 died in Makkah, 12 in Madinah, one in Arafat and two in Jeddah,” the Hajj office director said.

    The Hajj office said Saudi medical centres so far issued 66,964 automated prescriptions for Bangladeshi pilgrims and IT help desks have delivered 24,580 service interventions to assist pilgrims during their stay.
   
    Saudi public hospitals have treated 308 Bangladeshi pilgrims while 19 are still being treated in the Saudi health facilities.
   
    Hossain said Bangladesh asked all concerned in Saudi Arabia to ensure medical services to Bangladeshi pilgrims during the Hajj and post Hajj period. 

    This year's Hajj operations began with the first outbound flight on April 29 and concluded on May 31 while the return phase commenced on June 10 and will continue until July 10.
