Int'l Day against Drug Abuse observed in districts

DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - The International Day against Drug Abuse and 
Illicit Trafficking was observed in the districts like elsewhere in the world 
today to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug 
abuse.

It is being observed annually on 26 June, since 1989.

In Chapainawabganj, The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit 
Trafficking was observed in the district to make people aware of the terrible 
clutches of drugs.

Various programmes have been organized in the district marking the day.

A rally was brought out from the Deputy Commissioner's office under the joint 
initiative of the District Administration and the Narcotics Control 
Department and the rally parading main streets of the district town met at 
the Chapainawabganj stage for a discussion meeting.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad addressed the meeting as the chief guest 
while Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Department Chowdhury Imrul Hasan 
was in the chair.

Among others, Police Superintendent Md. Rezaul Karim, 59-BGB Commander Lt. 
Col. Golam Kibria, 53-BGB Commander Lt. Col. Fahad Mahmud Rinku, Principal 
Md. Abdul Awal, Dr. Biplab Kumar Majumder, Additional District Magistrate 
Anisur Rahman were present.

The speakers said that drugs are now a terrible scourge which is leading our 
youth society to the verge of destruction. They also said that everyone 
should be aware and save people from this terrible scourge of drugs.

In Barishal, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 
was observed in the district today with befitting manner.

A discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony were held at the 
District Administrator's Office Conference Room organized by the District 
Administration and District Narcotics Control Department on the occasion of 
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hossain was present as the chief guest at 
the programme. 

Additional District Magistrate Barisal Sufal Chandra Goldar presided over the 
programme. Superintendent of Police Md. Sharif Uddin, Additional Director 
Narcotics Control Department Divisional Office Barisal Paritosh Kumar Kundu 
and officials of various government and non-government organizations were 
present.

At the beginning, a grand rally brought out in the city.

In Habiganj, Deputy Administration and Narcotics Control Department organised 
different programme in the district marking International Day against Drug 
Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

A discussion meeting after a rally was held at the Deputy Commissioner's 
office. 

Deputy Commissioner Papia Akhter presided over the meeting. Additional 
Superintendent of Police Atiqul Islam, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mukhlesur 
Rahman Ujjal, AD of the District Narcotics Control Department Sajidul Islam, 
District Primary Education Officer Mohammad Shah Alam, Director of the Sun 
Drug Treatment Center Ejaz Thakur Chowdhury, journalist Abdul Halim were 
present, among others.

In Rangamati, International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 
was observed in the district.

Marking the day, a discussion meeting and rally were held in the district. 

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Ruhul Amin presided over 
the discussion meeting organized by the District Administration and Narcotics 
Control Department at around 10:30 am at the Deputy Commissioner office.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rifat Asma, Assistant Director of the District 
Narcotics Control Department M Saiful Islam and students including heads of 
various educational institutions were present at the time. 

A colorful rally was brought out from in front of the district administration 
office before the discussion meeting.

Besides, the day was observed in Satkhira, Munshiganj, Netrakona, 
Khagrachhari, Rajbari, Cumilla, Joypurhat, Nilphamari, Bhola, Jamalpur, 
Patuakhali, Jhenaidah, Shariatpur, Chandpur, Brahmanbaria, Natore and 
Bagerhat districts in a befitting manner.
