DHAKA, June 03, 2025 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued a rule over the decisions of National Sports Council (NSC) to remove Faruque Ahmed from the post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president and appoint Aminul Islam Bulbul as his successor.
A High Court division bench of Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Shathika Hossain passed the order, also asking the BCB board of directors to maintain the status quo in conducting its activities. The court came up with the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by the former BCB president.
Concerned lawyers said the present BCB board of directors led by Aminul Islam Bulbul can continue conducting its activities.
Senior jurist Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal moved the plea filed by Faruque Ahmed, Additional Attorney General Aneek Rushd Haque argued for NSC, while Barrister Nasir Uddin Ashim and Barrister Mahin M Rahman stood for the BCB and its president Aminul Islam Bulbul.
The High Court on June 2 dropped from its cause list, a writ filed by Faruque Ahmed in this connection. A High Court division bench of Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua dropped the plea “out of the list”.
National Sports Council on May 29 cancelled Faruque’s nomination as BCB director and nominated Aminul Islam Bulbul as a director the next day. Faruque Ahmed filed the writ with the High Court, challenging the two decisions of the NSC.
