DHAKA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) - Legal advice services have been provided to 187,369 people through the National Helpline Call Centre (toll-free-16430) under The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).
A report published in the website of NLASO revealed that the aforementioned number of people received legal aid service from 2013 to April 2025 through the hotline.
Initially, this service of the National Legal Aid Services Organization was launched at the district level. But, later, this service was introduced in the Supreme Court, toll free-16430, the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country.
Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Md Rezaul Karim told BSS that the activities of the Workers' Legal Assistance Cell at Legal Aid started in 2013. "The National Helpline Call Center toll-free number was launched in 2013. Since then, 187,369 people have received legal advice services until April 2025," he added.
The report stated that 17,328 people were provided with legal advice services before the establishment of the National Helpline Call Center to provide information services through the hotline.
This service has been provided at government expense under the 'Legal Aid Act' with the aim of providing legal aid to financially indigent and incompetent people seeking justice in the country.
The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are carried out under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The government declared April 28, 2013, as 'National Legal Aid Day'. This day is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm by promoting the government's legal aid programmes to establish the right to justice for all people.
