DHAKA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) – The Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry today honoured the captain, first officer and a cabin crew member of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight for their professionalism and composure in safely landing an aircraft after one of its rear wheels detached mid-air.

The recognition came following the incident on May 16, when Biman Flight BG-436, en route from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka with 71 passengers on board, experienced a mechanical glitch shortly after takeoff as one of the wheels from the aircraft’s landing gear reportedly fell off mid-air.

Despite the emergency, Captain JSMM Billah, First Officer Zayed Tajim and cabin crew member Jamal Uddin managed the situation with calm precision, ensuring the safe return and landing of the aircraft without injury or untoward incident.

Aviation and Tourism  Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin handed over the commendations at a ceremony held at Biman's headquarters Balaka Bhaban in the capital, according to a press release issued by the ministry.

Commending the crew's courageous and timely actions, the adviser urged all concerned to maintain heightened vigilance and reinforce safety standards to avert such untoward incidents in the future.

Following the recognition ceremony, Adviser Bashir attended a presentation on Biman’s ground handling readiness at the newly built third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

He stressed the need for timely and quality completion of the third terminal construction work to boost the country's aviation infrastructure and ensure seamless service delivery.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan and Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and CEO Dr Shafiqur Rahman, among other officials were  present at the event.
