DHAKA, May 18, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz today instructed prompt removal of Qurbani (sacrificial) waste to ensure cleanliness and hygiene in the city.
During a surprise visit to the Amin Bazar Landfill ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, he gave the directives to officers, employees, and waste transport vehicle drivers to be involved in the cleanup efforts.
Emphasizing proper waste disposal, he urged the drivers to manage the upcoming Qurbani waste efficiently and safely while maintaining strict discipline.
The DNCC administrator exchanged views with officials concerned and waste transport drivers regarding the disposal of waste during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha at the landfill.
He inspected the Leachate Treatment Plant and directed Amin Bazar Landfill Expansion and Modernization Project Director SM Shafiqur Rahman to enhance the plant’s efficiency.
Additionally, Mohammad Azaz instructed that the chemicals used in wastewater treatment be sent to a laboratory for testing to ensure proper purification.
While inspecting the site, he examined the storage of Leachate wastewater, verifying that it was not seeping into nearby rivers or water bodies. He emphasized the need for vigilant monitoring to prevent any contamination of river water.
On behalf of the transport drivers, Abul Hossain Bhuiyan, President of the Transport Drivers and Workers' Employees Union, and General Secretary Md. Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan highlighted various difficulties and problems of the drivers.
The DNCC Administrator assured them of immediate solutions to all issues and providing all kinds of equipment to ensure smooth management of sacrificial waste.
Since the entrances to the two dumping stations are in very bad condition, he directed to repair the roads quickly and to widen the roads of the dumping stations used for waste disposal on an urgent basis.
The administrator also inspected the Amin Bazar landfill, which was completely filled with waste in 2017, and how waste is still managed.
The DNCC Administrator determined a place to dump the waste from the Dhaka Cantonment area at the Amin Bazar landfill.
He said that the useless excavators left at the dumping station will be repaired and used for the removal of sacrificial animals’ waste.
Amin Bazar Landfill Expansion and Modernization Project Director SM Shafiqur Rahman, Superintendent Engineer of the Waste Management Department Md Farhad and other concerned officials were present.
