DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka WASA, RAJUK, and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will collaborate on sewage management in the Gulshan and Banani areas, said DNCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abu Sayeed Md. Kamruzaman.
He revealed this while inspecting the Sewage Management Plant constructed by DNCC adjacent to Karail slum on the banks of Banani Lake today, according to a press release.
The DNCC CEO mentioned that the road along the lake—from the bridge on Banani Road No. 11 to Karail slum—belongs to RAJUK, which has requested DNCC to construct a drainage system in the area. DNCC will proceed with this construction very soon, he added.
Kamruzaman stated that DNCC has already built three sewage treatment plants with the support of UNICEF, and trial operations are set to commence within this month. If the nature-based technology functions effectively without chemicals, additional plants will be established in various DNCC areas, he said.
The DNCC CEO urged city homeowners not to connect their sewage disposal systems directly to the city corporation's storm drainage network. Instead, in areas where the Dhaka WASA sewage disposal infrastructure is unavailable, he advised homeowners to install sewage management plants within their properties.
Among those present at the event were DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Md Moin Uddin, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore ABM Shamsul Alam, officials from relevant DNCC departments, and representatives from the Gulshan-Banani Society.
