CHATTOGRAM, May 12, 2025 (BSS) - The much-awaited 5th convocation ceremony of Chattogram University (CU) will be held on Wednesday.
A total of 22,586 graduates will participate in the convocation, which is taking place after a long gap of nine years.
The main convocation ceremony is scheduled for May 14, from 2 pm to 4 pm, at the university's central playground. Chief Adviser, Nobel Laureate, and former CU teacher, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is expected to attend the event as the keynote speaker.
At the convocation, Dr. Muhammad Yunus will be awarded an honorary D.Litt degree. Education Adviser Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Protik, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Md. Fouzul Kabir Khan, Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, and University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Faiz will also be present.
CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yahya Akhtar will preside over the grand event.
In a press conference held at S Rahman Hall of the Chattogram Press Club this afternoon, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Yahya Akhtar provided detailed information regarding the convocation arrangements.
He stated that the university has 48 departments, six institutes, and five research centres under 10 faculties.
"Currently, 28,515 students are enrolled, with 996 teachers, 445 officers, and 1,528 employees working at the university. A total of 22,586 students will receive degrees at the convocation. Among them, 42 are Ph.D. holders, 33 are M.Phil. recipients, and the rest are bachelor's and master's degree holders," said the Vice-Chancellor.
According to university sources, degrees will be conferred on 4,988 students from Arts and Humanities, 2,766 from Science, 4,593 from Commerce, 4,158 from Sociology, 1,685 from Biology, 796 from Engineering, 703 from Law, 317 from Education, 284 from Marine Science, and 2,296 from Medicine.
High-quality food, fruits, and gift items such as bags, souvenirs, pens, pins, wallets, and convocation hats have been prepared for the guests.
Security arrangements have been strengthened through coordination with the police and intelligence agencies. Entry will be strictly regulated, and no participant will be allowed without a convocation card.
Special transportation arrangements have been made. A total of 100 large buses will transport guests to the campus starting at 6 am from various points in the city.
Additionally, a special shuttle train schedule has been arranged. Only designated buses and shuttle transports will be allowed entry through Main Gate No. 1.
Convocation Celebration Committee Member Secretary and Acting Controller of Examinations of the University, Professor Dr. Md. Enayet Ullah Patwari, expressed hope that everyone will participate in an orderly manner.
