ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Jan 30, 2025 (BSS)- Islamic University Model United Nations Association (IUMUNA) today organised a diplomatic marathon aiming to sharpen the thinking capabilities and enhancing knowledge about ongoing international and national affairs to the students of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia.
The event was inaugurated at IU's Mir Mosharraf Hossain Academic Building this morning. Around 150 students from different departments, mostly under 2022-23 and 2023-24 sessions, participated in the daylong programme.
Professor Dr Kazi Mostafa Arif of the Department of Economics addressed the event as the chief guest while Former vice-president of IUMUNA Nahid Hasan was in the chair.
On the occasion, Prof Dr Nilufa Akhter Banu of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department and Assistant Prof Shariful Islam Jewel of Tourism and Hospitality Management were present as special guests.
The marathon was held in three separate sections-- a quiz section on national and international affairs, a problem solving test on global issues and a public speaking task.
Qualifying all the rounds, Shakira Islam of Economics Department under 2022-23 sessions got the first prize.
President of IUMUNA Afzalul Haque said, "IUMUNA is a prestigious organisation of Islamic University. Like other organisations, we educate our members with specialized skill sets that will help them to update with the changing world. We will bring more events like this to enhance students' leadership skills."
General Secretary Nazmus Sakib Jitu said, "We have organised such an event after a long time. We've organized the programme to spread our activities to the IU newcomers. Through this marathon, students will achieve some basic skills like public speaking and critical thinking ability. This will also lead them to develop strong communication skills."
