DHAKA, Sep 07, 2026 (BSS)- Thakurgaon Press Club's executive committee paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at his residence here today.
Press Club leaders congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam on assuming the office of the President, said a Bangabhaban press release.
The President said an independent and responsible media is essential for democracy, good governance and a just society and state.
He urged journalists' representatives to sincerely and properly highlight the voices of grassroots and marginalized people.
The journalist leaders of Thakurgaon highlighted various difficulties and demands of working journalists of the districts.
They also drew his attention for expansion of the Thakurgaon Press Club building, adequate allocation of funds in the Journalists Welfare Trust for local journalists, and formation of a Wage Board for journalists.
Assuring the journalists, the President said he would talk to the appropriate authorities and take necessary measures to address their difficulties and demands, urging journalists to remain united.
Thakurgaon Press Club President Lutfur Rahman Mithu and General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Tanu led the delegation.
President’s Press Secretary Sarwar Alam and senior government officials were present.
