DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was the main source of inspiration for all national movements, ranging from the country's freedom struggle to the 2024 mass uprising.

Rizvi made the remarks after placing a floral wreath at the grave of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on Dhaka University campus this morning marking the 50th death anniversary of the rebel poet.

"From our independence movement to the 2024 mass uprising, Nazrul served as the key inspiration. Even today, whenever anyone conspires against the sovereignty of the country, the words of Nazrul teach us to stand up and resist," he said. 

He said that the Rebel Poet's immortal creations remain the primary catalyst for protesting oppression and safeguarding national sovereignty.

"Kazi Nazrul Islam was not only the poet of rebellion and love, but he also sounded the very first call for the independence of this subcontinent, defying the iron fist of colonial rule," Rizvi said. 

"Whenever our nation faces tyranny, fascism, or conspiracies against our independence and sovereignty, Nazrul’s fiery writings ignite the spirit of resistance within us."

Highlighting the poet's multi-faceted genius, the BNP leader noted that Nazrul left an indelible mark across all branches of Bengali literature, authoring around 4,000 songs, numerous novels, and short stories. 

He emphasized that Nazrul's uncompromising stance against social injustice and human exploitation transcends time, offering timeless inspiration for every generation.

"Nazrul’s songs and poetry guided our youth and children to take to the streets against systemic oppression. To dismantle tyranny and establish justice, his legacy serves as our driving force," he added, stressing the vital need to foster and practice Nazrul’s philosophy in every sphere of national life.

Rizvi prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of the National Poet, reiterating that Nazrul remains an inseparable part of the nation's identity and ongoing struggle for rights.
