DHAKA, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that a government becomes successful when it is sincere and focuses on public welfare.

"The government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is also sincerely working for the welfare of the people," he said while talking to journalists after placing floral tributes and offering Fatiha at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.

Prime Minister's newly appointed Information Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapon was also present.

Rizvi said, "Despite going through many crises, the government has demonstrated honesty and dedication in its activities. The party chairman and current Prime Minister made promises to the people before the election, and the government is tirelessly striving to implement those promises. That effort is visible."

Regarding the energy crisis, he said, "The recent crisis is not the responsibility of the government or any individual. It is a type of natural crisis. The energy crisis was caused by the war, and due to a malfunction in the terminal in Maheshkhali that supplies gas and LNG, gas pressure decreased for a few days. This caused factories in various areas to shut down, and households also faced difficulties in cooking."

"The malfunction of the floating terminal in Maheshkhali has already been completely repaired. The LNG cargo has also arrived and supply is ongoing. As a result, gas pressure in various parts of the country has increased again, and load shedding has also been significantly reduced," he added.

Mentioning the activities of the government, the Acting Secretary General said, "There was no lack of sincerity on the part of the government, and the people of the country have seen that even during the energy crisis. However, there are also conspiracies and plots in the midst of this."

He claimed that the government has identified and thwarted these conspiracies while continuing the programmes for public welfare, social security, and infrastructure development.

Rizvi said, "There will be accountability for every action of the government. This accountability can be in Parliament, among leaders and activists, and through the media. The government has already set several examples of this."

Describing the current government as a people-oriented and public welfare government, he said, "This government is strengthening social security and developing infrastructure by eliminating all forms of corruption. In the past, especially during the 'fascist era', there was 'horrific mega corruption' in the name of mega projects. Moving away from that, genuine development is now taking place."

When asked about his priorities as the party's Acting Secretary General, Rizvi said, "My primary responsibility is to strengthen the organization, improve coordination among leaders and activists, and address the flaws and deviations that exist or may arise in the organization from the grassroots to the national level."

He said, "Party Chairman Tarique Rahman's directives and guidance will be implemented at the organizational level from the grassroots to the national level."

Rizvi expressed hope that his colleagues will cooperate in this regard.

Regarding district BNP and associate organisation committees whose terms have expired, he said, "New committees will be announced for those whose terms have expired, and conferences will be held. However, when someone steps down, they will not leave completely. They will have an 'upward movement' and may move to higher positions, receiving responsibilities in other organizations or within BNP."
