DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS)— Hasan Mahmud claimed a career-best 6-55 as Bangladesh made a dream start to their first Test tour of Australia in 23 years, bowling the hosts out for just 198 on the opening day of the series opener at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin today.

His figure is the third best by a Bangladeshi pacer behind Shahadat Hossain Rajib’s 6-27 against South Africa and Ebadot Hossain’s 6-46 against New Zealand in a historic victory in Mount Maunganui.

Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain claimed two wickets apiece to complement Hasan’s magical bowling, making it only the second time that Bangladesh quicks took all 10 wickets in an innings. The first instance was against Pakistan in Rawalpindi Test in 2024.

The visitors exploited the swing-friendly conditions brilliantly after Australia surprisingly chose to bat first.

No one could stand tall against Hasan who swung the bowl admirably in both ways but the exception was Steve Smith, a  generational talent who defied all odds to hit team-best 71.

Travis Head and Jake Weatherald put on 45 runs for the opening stand, indicating a good start but Hasan accounted both of them in his consecutive two over before Ebadot dismissed Marnus Labuschgne.

With Australia reeling at 61-3 at lunch, Steve Smith made a resistance and added 55 runs with Alex Carey for the fifth wicket.

Ebadot who was the unsung hero of the match, beating every Australian batters repeatedly with his extra bounce, broke the dangerous partnership by sending back Carey who made 19.

Hasan got the better of Smith for his third five-wicket haul in his brief career before ripping through the rest of the batting line up.
