Thakurgaon, August 2, 2026, (BSS)-Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the admission process for students at Thakurgaon Medical College will officially begin next year. 

Also BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul confirmed that the main work of establishing the proposed medical college will begin within the next few months.

He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of an eye camp with Nepal's assistance at Thakurgaon Diabetic and Healthcare Hospital on Sunday morning.

He said, "Since the majority of people in our region are poor, it is not possible for many to travel to Dhaka for treatment. The government is working sincerely to reach modern healthcare to the doorsteps of these ordinary and marginalized people."

He further said that the present government has organized such eye camps through bilateral discussions with the Nepalese government, which will play a role in providing better services to eye patients in the area. He also said that a decision will be taken after discussing how to expand the scope of such eye camps in each upazila of the district in phases.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "To improve the quality of healthcare in the area, the 250-bed Thakurgaon General Hospital has already been upgraded to 600 beds. We are trying to improve the quality of healthcare and how to reach the facilities to the doorsteps of the common people."

The guest of honour of the event, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Nepal to Bangladesh, Mr. Pratik Karki, in his speech said   the relations between Nepal and Bangladesh are tied with a strong thread of historical bond. 

“This relationship is not only between the government of Nepal and the government of Bangladesh but it extends to the people of Bangladesh and the people of Nepal. This relationship is of friendship and mutual cooperation in all fields including agriculture, industry, trade, healthcare, culture,”  He said. 

 Mr. Padma Narayan Chowdhury, Chairman of Biratnagar Eye Hospital, Nepal,  Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, Superintendent of Police, Belal Hossain, District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, among others were present.
