RAJSHAHI, March 17, 2026 (BSS)- On the occasion of the Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, financial assistance was distributed among the conservancy workers of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
At a function today at the Green Plaza of the Nagar Bhaban, the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation Mahfuzur Rahman Riton handed over the financial grants to 1,237 workers as the chief guest.
Each of the workers received Taka 5,000, making the total distributed amount Taka 61.85 lakh. This is the first time that conservancy workers of RCC have received Eid gifts from the Prime Minister.
At the event, the RCC Administrator expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his family. He also conveyed deep condolences to the family of martyr Ali Raihan of Rajshahi and other martyrs of the July Mass Uprising.
In his speech, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said the financial assistance was given as an Eid gift to the workers who work tirelessly to keep the city clean.
He expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to the Prime Minister, noting that such support had never been provided to cleanliness workers before.
The Premier entrusted him with responsibilities and that he did not come to Rajshahi empty-handed but brought the Prime Minister's gift.
He further said that the Prime Minister has high expectations and has instructed him to make Rajshahi more beautiful and developed, and he pledged to work towards that goal.
The RCC Administrator also mentioned that former President Ziaur Rahman had
initiated canal excavation programmes to boost agricultural production, and
now Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has launched canal re-excavation
initiatives, which will benefit farmers nationwide.
He stated that even before the ink of votes dried on fingers, the Prime
Minister began implementing election promises, including the distribution of
family cards as a pilot project, with a target to provide them to 50 million
people over the next five years.
He also noted that allowances have been provided to imams, muezzins, and
khadems-something unprecedented.
He emphasized that the city corporation is a public service institution and
assured that all civic services would be delivered with sincerity.
Ongoing development projects in Rajshahi will be completed, and the city will
be transformed into a clean, green, modern, and livable metropolis with
everyone's cooperation.
The event was chaired by RCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Rezaul Karim while
its Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun delivered the welcome speech.
Conservancy workers expressed joy and enthusiasm upon receiving the Eid
gifts.
Worker Rajibul Islam said he had never received such assistance in his career
and was very happy to get the Eid gift.
Workers Mariam and Sumaiya said they were worried about managing Eid
expenses, but the assistance relieved their concerns and would allow them to
celebrate Eid properly.
Another worker, Harunur Rashid, said the Eid gift brought them great
happiness and would further motivate them in maintaining cleanliness.
