CUMILLA, Mar 8, 2026 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member and Cumilla-1 lawmaker Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain today said Bangladesh will reach a new height of development and progress in the next five years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

"To achieve this goal, the sincerity, efficiency and coordinated efforts of government officials are very important in implementing the development programmes taken by the government," he said.

Dr Mosharraf made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with officials of various departments of the local administration at Meghna Upazila Parishad auditorium in Cumilla as the chief guest.

He said considering the current reality of the country, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken various important and timely decisions for the welfare of the people within a short period of time after assuming the office. 

These initiatives include introduction of family cards, farmers' cards and e-health cards, raising awareness about traffic signals on the road, saving electricity and strengthening discipline in administrative activities, the lawmaker said.

He said restraint in the use of government vehicles and fuel, decision taken not to allow duty-free vehicles and government plots for members of parliament is also a reflection of the government's people-oriented approach aiming to establish a culture of accountability in state governance. 

These steps have already received a positive response from the people, he said.

Dr Mosharraf said the government is working on the basis of integrated planning and modern thinking to build a developed, stable and prosperous Bangladesh. 

BNP National Executive Committee member Advocate Dr Khandaker Maruf Hossain spoke as a special guest at the meeting with Meghna Upazila Executive Officer Mousumi Akhter in the chair.

Officials from various departments of the upazila administration were present in the meeting.
