Over 22,000 held, huge arms, drugs seized under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2: Jahangir

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 has significantly strengthened law and order across the country, leading to the arrest of 22,464 crime suspects. 

The arrests have been made since the operations launch on December 13, 2025 and as of January 25, 2026.

Speaking at a Core Committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat, the Home Adviser said that the operation has also resulted in the recovery of 483 firearms, 4,660 rounds of bullets, 799 cartridges, 1,084 indigenous weapons, along with grenades, mortar shells, gunpowder, fireworks and bomb-making materials. 

Overall, 64,628 people have been arrested across the country, including 42,164 on specific charges and warrants, he added.

Chowdhury said the number of check posts and patrols has been increased nationwide to prevent terrorists and criminals from evading law enforcement and to accelerate the recovery of illegal and looted weapons.

Highlighting recent operations, the Home Adviser said that RAB, Police and BGB have carried out a series of successful raids across the country, leading to the arrest of armed terrorists, drug traffickers and murder suspects, and the recovery of foreign pistols, revolvers, detonators, explosives, pipe guns, and large consignments of marijuana and Yaba tablets.

He also noted that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered firearms, mortar shells, mine safety caps and shotguns in multiple border operations and seized millions of taka worth of narcotics. 

In addition, 14 unarmed members of Myanmar security forces recently surrendered to the BGB amid the ongoing situation in Rakhine State, he continued.

The Home Adviser said Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 will continue with full force until terrorism, illegal arms and drug networks are completely dismantled and public safety is fully ensured.
