DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Police have confirmed that the main accused in the murder of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman bin Hadi has fled to India, as authorities prepare to submit a charge sheet within the next seven to ten days.

Two Indian nationals, Purthi and Sami, have also been arrested by Meghalaya Police in India for helping Faisal Karim Masud and his accomplice Alamgir Sheikh-accused in the murder of Shaheed Hadi-escape to India.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam disclosed the information today while briefing the media on the progress of the case at the DMP Media Centre on Mintoo Road here.

"The investigation into the murder of Hadi is nearing completion, with the charge sheet expected to be submitted within the next seven to ten days," he said.

So far, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the killing, six of whom have given confessional statements before the court under Section 164 of the CrPC, he added.

Police said the murder was premeditated.

Responding to questions, SN Md. Nazrul Islam confirmed that the prime accused, Faisal Karim Masud, fled the country following the attack.

"Faisal and another individual escaped to India by crossing the border through Mymensingh," he said.

Police recovered two foreign pistols, 52 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, fake number plates, and cheques worth Tk 218 crore from 53 accounts, he added.

Speaking at a press conference, Additional Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP Shafiqul Islam said that several individuals involved in the killing have already been identified.

However, he noted that not all names could be disclosed at this stage to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Based on the findings so far, police believe the murder was politically motivated.

Hadi was shot on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station at around 2:20 pm on December 12.

According to police, Faisal Karim Masud and an accomplice, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on Hadi while he was heading towards Suhrawardy Udyan after conducting a campaign from Motijheel Mosque.

Critically injured, Hadi was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital.

As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore on December 15, where he died on December 18 while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.

Following the attack, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inquilab Mancha, filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14 on charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, and use of dangerous weapons.

After Hadi's death, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad on December 20 ordered the addition of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code to the case.
