Another Chinese medical team joins Khaleda Zia's treatment

DHAKA, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) - A four-member medical team from China has arrived in Dhaka to assist in the treatment of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is receiving care at Evercare Hospital.

The Chinese doctors - Chi Jianfang, Yun Xin, Zhang Yuhui, and Meng Hong O - reached the capital at 10:10 pm and went directly to the hospital from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). 

BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the arrival.

Earlier, former secretary Abdul Khaleque received the visiting team at the airport, after which they were escorted to the hospital with special security arrangements.

Begum Zia's treatment is being managed by a medical board that includes specialists from Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States and the London Clinic in the United Kingdom. 

A five-member advance team from China had arrived in Dhaka on December 1 to provide preliminary assistance, while UK-based specialist Dr. Richard Biel joined the team earlier today.

The visiting physicians will assess Begum Zia's condition and provide recommendations on whether her treatment should continue in Dhaka or in London.

According to Khaleda Zia's personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain, the specialists from Johns Hopkins and the London Clinic are maintaining virtual connections with the medical board overseeing her care. 

The international team includes Professor Habibur Rahman, Professor Rafiquddin Ahmed, Professor John Hamilton, Professor Dr. Hamid Rab from the USA, and Professor John Patric, Professor Jennifer Cross, and Dr. Zubaida Rahman from the UK.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is coordinating with the medical teams from London on a 24-hour basis.

Evercare Hospital's 12-member medical board includes Professor FM Siddiqui, Professor Nuruddin Ahmed, Professor AQM Mohsin, Professor Shamsul Arefin, Professor Ziaul Huq, Professor Masum Kamal, Professor AZM Saleh, Brigadier General (retd) Saiful Islam, Dr. Jafar Iqbal, Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, and Dr. Al Mamun.

Khaleda Zia has been under intensive care at Evercare Hospital for the past 11 days and remains in critical condition.
