Wahiduddin for coordinated efforts for livestock sector growth

DHAKA, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS)- Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud today underscored the need for technical support and coordinated initiatives to accelerate the development of the country’s livestock sector.

Speaking at the opening of the National Livestock Week 2025 as the chief guest, he said that researchers are actively working to advance the sector. 

He also highlighted the crucial role of farmers in national development through livestock rearing, with women making particularly significant contributions.

Department of Livestock Services under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock organized the event at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.

Inaugurating the week, Wahiduddin Mahmud said that National Livestock Week would play a pivotal role in developing the sector. He noted that livestock rearing supports marginal communities and has added strength to the economy.

He urged farmers to avoid cruel treatment of animals and highlighted the need for entrepreneurs to provide nutritious feed and vaccination support for further advancement of the sector.

With Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter in the chair, secretary of the ministry Abu Tahir Muhammad Zaber delivered the welcome speech. 

Speaking on the occasion, Farida Akhter said men and women across the country have achieved success through rearing indigenous livestock. 

Domestic entrepreneurs playing an important role by rearing not only various breeds of livestock nationwide, but also ducks, chickens, and goats, which are generating employment for millions of people, she noted. 

She also emphasized the need to formulate a proper policy for this sector.

Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Dr. Md. Abu Sufian and a number of farmers also spoke at the event. 

A message of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the day was read out at the event.

During the ceremony, cash prizes and bronze, silver, and gold medals were awarded to 15 individuals in categories including livestock rearing, poultry farming, animal and animal products, livestock development and management, and marginal farmers and women.
