DHAKA, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today called upon all to remain cautious about earthquakes and said they will try to develop an early warning system for such disasters.
"We all have to be alert about the earthquakes," he told reporters after attending the regular meeting of the Core Committee on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The Home Adviser said Bangladesh has no early earthquake warning system like different other countries.
"Many countries have apps that give warning 10 seconds before the possible earthquakes. We are thinking to develop such apps in future," he said.
Jahangir continued that they will hold discussions with experts about it.
The Home Adviser also called upon all to maintain building codes while constructing buildings. "Otherwise, the future situation will be more adverse," he added.
Expressing concern over constructing buildings by filling up the waterbodies, he requested RAJUK to look into the matter before giving approval of any plan.
About the preparation of Fire Service and Civil Defence to deal with major earthquakes, Jahangir said the fire service has already dealt with minor such incidents promptly.
But what the situation will be in case of dealing with major earthquakes can only be known after such major incidents occur, he added.
Bangladesh on Friday and Saturday experienced four earthquakes, leaving at least 10 people dead, scores of others injured, and several buildings tilted, triggering widespread concern across the country.
