DHAKA, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - The government is taking all necessary measures to ensure adequate food supply in the country while food security situation is comparatively better here, said Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today.

The Finance Adviser said this while replying to a query of reporters after chairing two separate meetings on the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase and the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

When sought his remarks about a report of the UN agencies, Dr Salehuddin said Bangladesh’s food security situation is comparatively better than many neighboring countries.

“We are alert and monitoring the situation carefully. Our aim is to maintain a balanced food supply so that no shortages arise,” he said.

The Adviser explained that the government is taking proactive steps to ensure sufficient stocks and has already made predictions and adjustments based on market trends.

“We are also taking measures to secure rice stocks, even adjusting prices slightly to maintain supply, ensuring both the stability of the market and the protection of farmers’ interests,” he added.

Dr Salehuddin further elaborated that rice procurement is part of a broader strategy to prevent hoarding by middlemen or mill owners.

“If we don’t buy rice directly, there is a risk that stockpiles remain in private hands, which could disrupt availability. We are doing our best to manage the situation effectively, though achieving perfection is always a gradual process,” he noted.

The Adviser’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the government to balance food distribution, maintain adequate stock levels, and safeguard farmers’ livelihoods while ensuring that ordinary citizens have access to essential food items.
