Farmer couple sacrifices cow in name of Bangabandhu, Bangamata, PM

DHAKA, June 30, 2023 (BSS) - Kishoreganj farmer couple Bulbul Ahmed and his wife Israt Jahan sacrificed the cow which was gifted to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha on Thursday and meat was distributed among the local poor.
 
The cow was sacrificed in the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
 
The cross Brahma breed cow which was purchased by the couple at a cost of Taka 2.5 lakh from Netrokona in 2020 and reared for over three years to gift it to the Premier marking the Eid-ul-Azha, also sacrificed in the name of the couple and Bulbul's parents.
 
Prime Minister's deputy press secretary Hasan Jahid Tusher told newsmen as many as 565 kilogram of meat was got from the sacrificial cow and was distributed among the local poor at the directive of the Premier.
 
A special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the August 15, 1975 carnage and welfare of the Prime Minister, the nation and the people.
 
The meat of the cow was distributed among 166 landless and homeless families of Jangalia and Sukhia unions under Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj in presence of the Prime Minister's special assistant, agriculturist Moshiur Rahman Humayun.
 
The Prime Minister was informed that a farmer couple reared the cow to gift it to the Premier on June 9 last and was overwhelmed with the farmer couple's gesture and thanked the two -- Bulbul Ahmed and Ishrat Jahan - residents of Charkauna village at Pakundia upazila in Kishoreganj district.
 
Bulbul said that he and his wife Ishrat Jahan bought this cow for the Prime Minister through their small amount of savings along with taking loan from Amar Bari Amar Khamar (My House, My Farm) Project, launched by the Awami League government. They took care of the cow passionately for the last three years.
 
"We bought and reared this cow out of passion and love for the Prime Minister," he added.
 
Bulbul Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for agreeing to accept his cow as a gift.
