SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2025 (BSS) - A total of Taka 18,115 crore has been allocated for the Ministry of Science and Technology for the fiscal year (FY) 2026-2027, which is Taka 5,411 crore more than the allocation in the revised budget of the FY 2025-2026.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today placed the national budget at Jatiya Sangsad allocating the amount for the ministry.
In his speech, the minister said that in order to foster a scientific mindset among the next generation and inspire youth in space science, in addition to Dhaka and Rajshahi modern Novo theatres are being established in Khulna, Chattogram, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh.
In addition, he said, science centres will be established in every district in phases. To foster an innovation-driven and technology-oriented younger generation, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized the ‘Bangladesh Innovation Fair’. A number of research projects in the fields of textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and innovative technologies received government grants and financial support, he added.
For the first time, the minister said, Bangladeshi scientists have successfully decoded the full genome sequences of indigenous Mirakadim cattle, sheep and ducks using national capability. Through the Biotechnology Institute, climate-resilient and high-yielding crop varieties are being developed using genome editing technology, he added.
To address the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and prepare the youth for the future, Khosru said initiatives have been undertaken to establish specialized laboratories for Artificial Intelligence (AI), semi conductors, robotics, machine learning and big data analysis.
“There is no alternative to research in the development of new technologies. Therefore, the government will continue to provide financial support to researchers through the Science and Technology Fellowship Trust, with a view to creating world-class research opportunities both at home and abroad,” he added.
