KHULNA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - A court in Khulna today sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the gang rape of a 14-year-old schoolgirl in the city's Daulatpur area in 2013. Judge Muhammad Akram Hossain of the Khulna Metropolitan Child Violence Suppression Tribunal pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The convicts were Hiru, son of Sultan, and Nazu Khan, son of Forman Khan, both residents of Kulibagan Rail Colony slum under Daulatpur Police Station. They were also fined Taka 2 lakh each. In default of payment, they will have to serve an additional one-year simple imprisonment.The court ordered that the convicts be sent to jail after the verdict.
According to the prosecution, the victim, then a seventh-grade student, went to Nazu Khan's house on February 9, 2013, to seek medicine after cutting her foot while trimming her nails at home. As she was leaving after being told there was no medicine, the two accused allegedly dragged her inside the house and raped her in turn.
The victim's mother, a worker at a local jute mill, was away at work during the incident. After returning home, she took her daughter to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment. Four days later, she filed a rape case with Daulatpur Police Station naming Hiru and Nazu Khan as accused.
Police submitted the charge sheet against the two accused on June 30, 2013. Charges were framed on January 21, 2014. Following the establishment of the Child Violence Suppression Tribunal, the case was transferred there and was disposed of after nine working days of trial proceedings.
