DHAKA, March 03, 2026 (BSS) - A special court here today sentenced three people to death and eight others to life imprisonment in a case filed over the premeditated murder of Shyamal Bepari, 38, in Purba Rakhi village of Munshiganj in 2023. 

Judge Shyam Sundar Roy of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 delivered the verdict this morning. 

The death-row convicts are Shahadat Bepari, Jahangir Bepari and Ibrahim Bepari. 

Those sentenced to life imprisonment are Monir Chowkidar, Hayatul Islam Chowkidar, Habib Bepari, Ashraful Khan, Humayun Dewan, Emdad Haldar alias Imran, Ayub Khan and Liton Bepari.  

The court also fined each of them Taka 25,000, in default of which they will have to serve an additional six months in jail. 

According to the prosecution, on June 13, 2023, the convicts shot Shyamal Bepari to death over a previous dispute.Following the incident, the victim's younger brother Ibrahim Miah filed a case with Munshiganj Police Station on June 15, the same year.  

After completing the probe, the investigating officer submitted a charge sheet against the convicts before a Munshiganj court on February 17, 2024. The case was later transferred to the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3. 

On July 14 last year, the tribunal framed charges against 11 accused. During the trial, a total of 27 witnesses testified before the tribunal.
