Shahin remanded in murder, body dismemberment case

DHAKA, March 02, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed one Md Shahin Alam on
a five-day remand in a case filed over the killing of his roommate Md
Obaidullah and dismemberment of the body.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the
order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place
him on a seven-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, Shahin had long been angered by immoral
proposals from the victim. On February 27 last, while returning home from
work, Shahin received a call from Obaidullah asking him to bring cigarettes.

Later, he was again asked to bring bread and kebabs. Shahin became irritated
as he was repeatedly asked to go downstairs from their sixth-floor residence
after iftar during the Ramadan.

At night, an argument broke out between the two as Obaidullah was speaking
loudly on the phone while Shahin was trying to sleep. Enraged, Shahin brought
a machete from the kitchen and attacked Obaidullah, killing him on the spot.

After ensuring the death, Shahin dismembered the body and disposed of the
parts at different locations across the capital in an attempt to evade
arrest.

Police recovered a severed leg from in front of Ananda Community Centre in
the Naya Paltan area around 2:00am on Saturday. Two hands were later found in
front of the National Stadium in Gulistan. Another leg was recovered from the
Kamalapur Railway Station area around 2:00pm the same day.

Police, through biometric assessment, identified the body as that of Md
Obaidullah, 30, a marketing officer at Gonoshasthya Homeo, a homeopathy
clinic in Purana Paltan.

Analyzing CCTV footage and using information technology, police identified
the suspect's location. Md Shahin Alam was arrested on February 28 from his
workplace.

According to police, a machete used in the killing, the victim's mobile phone
and the bicycle used to transport the body were recovered from a rented flat
on Kabi Jasimuddin Road following the accused's confessional statement. Based
on his information, police also recovered the severed head from a landfill in
Matuail and a portion of the torso from beneath the Salehpur Bridge in
Aminbazar.
