DHAKA, Dec 01, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced one Md Rubel to death in a case filed over the killing of his wife, Ria Akter, in South Keraniganj in 2021 for dowry. 
 
Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment in the presence of the convict and sent him back to jail with a conviction warrant. 
 
The court also fined him Taka one lakh, public prosecutor Ershad Alam Jeorge told BSS. 
 
According to the case documents, Rubel married Ria Akter in 2019 and began torturing her shortly afterwards, demanding Taka 50,000 as dowry from her family. 
 
On November 18, 2021, Rubel killed Ria at their Panchgao Bot Tola residence under South Keraniganj Police Station and later surrendered to the police.  
 
Ria's father, Motaleb Miah, subsequently filed the case with South Keraniganj Police Station. Police submitted a charge sheet against Rubel on March 31, 2022. A total of 12 witnesses testified during the trial.
