Court places ex-insurance company chairman under ACC remand

   DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed under remand for interrogation of former chairman of Fareast life insurance Md Nazrul Islam for five days over a corruption case involving Tk.207 crore hours after an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) team arrested him.

   Senior Metropolitan Special Judge Sabbir Foyez ordered him to be interrogated granting ACC the five-day remand as a team of the graft body detained him from Bangshal area and then produced him before the court.

   ACC lawyer in the court sought him to be in the graft body custody for seven days.

   ACC spokesman Md Akterul Islam said that Islam was an accused of embezzling Tk.207 crore during his tenure as chairman of the life insurance. 

  The graft body filed a case against him under the Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, Section 409/109 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Section 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012, he said.

   Akterul said Islam transferred the money in different bank accounts for hiding its sources.
