DHAKA, August 09, 2025 (BSS) - The law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry has experienced a remarkable increase in its daily operational efficiency over the last year during interim government, disposing of 1,283 files, compared to 834 files during the same period under the previous government.
"We have disposed of 1,283 files last year. The ministry also issued 391 legal opinions to various ministries, departments, and agencies-more than double the 180 opinions issued the previous year," said Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul.
Compared to previous administrations, the current ministry has demonstrated faster decision-making, broader legal support across government bodies, and significant improvements in public services such as attestation and document verification.
According to ministry sources, a total of 1, 59,544 documents-including certificates, affidavits, and deeds-were authenticated in the past year, nearly twice the volume processed by the previous administration.
"A record 12 stakeholder consultation meetings were organised on various legislative issues, ensuring participatory governance and transparency in drafting new laws. The ministry also provided secretarial support to several newly formed commissions, including the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances and the National Consensus Commission," Asif Nazrul said.
The ministry appointed 4,889 government law officers to various courts and tribunals, 274 attorneys to the Attorney General's Office, and facilitated the appointment of five judges to the Appellate Division and 23 judges to the High Court Division, along with prosecutors and judges for the International Crimes Tribunal.
Meanwhile, Law Ministry spokesperson Dr Rezaul Karim said the ministry has also made substantial progress in digital transformation over the past year.
"As part of this initiative, 50 per cent of the ministry's files are now processed through a digital file management system (D-Documents)-a milestone that has significantly improved administrative efficiency and transparency. In addition, the ministry's attestation service has been fully digitised, allowing the people to access it online," he said.
To ensure accountability and expedite justice for crimes committed during the July-August 2024 Mass Uprising, the ministry has established a dedicated Prosecution Monitoring Cell.
This special unit is tasked with closely monitoring the prosecution process of these politically and socially significant cases, ensuring due process and justice for the victims.
